What we're all about

the three lamps

The Three Lamps is a showcase for creative writing at the University of Auckland. It is named for an historic landmark that used to stand at the top of College Hill – a gathering place where the trams turned, speakers drew crowds, and the city met the suburbs.

On the home page you’ll find information on recent books by MCW alums: fiction, poetry and nonfiction. Our literary journal, T3L, is now published annually in the spring, featuring three of everything: short stories, essays, poets, short-shorts and book extracts. You can also read our online archive of back issues. All the writers in T3L are current or former creative writing students at the University of Auckland.

On the ‘Courses and Consultancy’ page there is information on creative writing courses at the university and public writing courses offered by Paula Morris and Selina Tusitala Marsh, both online and in-person. We also list a select group of MCW alums who have expertise in manuscript evaluation.

Please contact editor@thethreelamps.com if you have any questions about the writers or work featured on this site.
